Medical treatment with different drugs

At Alma Capillary Solutions we offer the latest pharmacological treatments to stop hair loss and quality loss.

Despite popular beliefs, medications to treat alopecia are effective in the early stages of hair loss. The same happens when baldness is the result of a pre-existing disease. For this reason, at the first warning signs of hair loss it is essential to go to a qualified professional.

In our unit we work with the most effective drugs approved by the Food and Drug Administration, among which is topical minoxidil for men and women with androgenic alopecia (AGA); and oral finasteride for men with AGA; and cyproterone acetate for female patients with AGA in a situation of androgenization.

The rest of the drugs and presentations are considered off-label, but evidence-based medicine makes them suitable for treating the different types of Alopecia.

Medical treatment with different drugs

Among the most effective medications for the treatment of baldness are:

  • Minoxidil: It is one of the most effective products against alopecia that exist so far. Originally used as a drug for hypertension, it is administered both orally and in solution and is more effective in young people where alopecia is recent. This technique acts on the follicles that are weak and damaged, revitalizing them and slowing their fall. It is most effective in the upper area of the head and on the crown, but its action is less in the front line and in the entrances.
  • Finasteride: It is an antiandrogenic drug that inhibits 5-alpha reductase, the enzyme that is responsible for transforming testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (the genetic trigger for androgenic alopecia). This causes the damage and weakening of the hair to stop, preventing its subsequent fall. Its main action occurs in the upper part of the head (central area and crown).
  • Spironolactone: Used to combat female androgenic alopecia, it is effective as an antiandrogen by reducing the production of testosterone and blocking the action of androgens.
  • Cyproterone acetate: This drug stands out for its progestin and antigonadotropic function. That is, it suppresses the androgenic activity caused by male hormones. It is especially effective in women.
